			:Je suis arrivé solennellement hier ici avec 16 naturels. Nous avons été près de deux jours en route. J’ai eu l’honneur de vous parler de cet endroit dans une précédente lettre qui était la seconde que je vous adressais d’ici, la première était partie avec Mr Maurice qui m’a remis la vôtre à l’adresse du P. Viard et dont j’ignorais le départ au moment où je confiais cette lettre à un des agens du navire. Demain je vais m’enfoncer dans l’intérieur jusqu’au lac Waikare et probablement jusqu’à une tribu sur une montagne (Ruatahuna) d’où l’on découvre la baie de plainty, à deux ou trois jours d’Opotiki. J’ai laissé une lettre pour vous à votre adresse je ne sais pas s’il se trouvera quelqu’occasion.
			:J’ai rencontré ici un anglais qui se trouvait à Akaroa avec sa Grandeur qui a même été invité à une messe musicale célébrée à bord l’une des corvettes ; il se rend à la baie ou au moins à Auckland et je lui confie la présente ; il m’a appris que Mgr était plus probablement parti pour les iles que pour la baie en conséquence je me regarde ici pour long-temps et je renouvelle les demandes que j’ai déjà eu l’honneur de vous adresser, un peu de tabac, du sel, du sucre, mes voyage ? xxxxx tabac et mes malades en sucre, un chapeau tricorne, sil possibilité quelques blouses ou chemisier. :My Reverend and Dear Confrère
;[1]: I solemnly arrived here yesterday with 16 naturals. We were on the road for nearly two days. I had the honour of telling you about this place in a previous letter which was the second I sent you from here, the first having gone with Mr Maurice who gave me yours with Fr Viard's address and whose departure I did not know at the time I entrusted this letter to one of the ship's agents. Tomorrow I shall go inland as far as Lake Waikare and probably to a tribe on a mountain (Ruatahuna) from which the Bay of Plenty can be seen, two or three days from Opotiki. I have left a letter for you at your address, I do not know if there will be any opportunity.
